China Amanda reports: China Yiwu International Commodities Fair i.e. Yiwu Fair start from 1995. Yiwu fair is 17 years old in 2011.

From May 18 to 22,1995, China Commodities City Famous and Quality Products Fair, the predecessor of China Yiwu International Commodities Fair (Yiwu Fair), was held in Phase I and II of Huangyuan Market. “This is the origin of Yiwu Fair. Every large river originates from trickles,” said an insider of exhibition industry. Although the 1995 fair only had an area of 5, 000 square meters with 348 exhibition booths, and most exhibitors and purchasers came from home and covered very limited line of trade, it has been a pioneer of exhibition in market, thus becoming a signal of huge development of Yiwu Market.

The year of 1995 is very unforgettable in the history of Yiwu Fair. The 1995 fair makes a key step to fulfill the strategic objective of developing China Commodities City into a nationwide commodities wholesale market, a display center and an information center. Since then, Yiwu Fair has been on the road to prosperity, and today it has become the most extensive, influential, and fruitful daily consumables exhibition as well as the third largest exhibition held by the Ministry of Commerce in China only next to Canton Fair and East China Fair. It has been honored as the Fair of Best Management in China of 2005, the Best Fair in China of 2006 and the Quality Exhibition Project in Yangtze River Delta Region of 2007.

And in the Fifth China International Exhibition Festival held in Chengdu July 2009, Yiwu was awarded the title of “Top Ten Exhibition City in China” and China Commodities City Exhibition Center was awarded the “2008-2009 Exhibition Venue Attracting Most Attention of Exhibitors in China”.
