Cleaning and Replacement of Camshaft Bearings

Camshaft bearings which are crucial to engine functionality and performance because they control the intake and exhaust valves located inside the cylinder head. Therefore,You should clean the block and engine components surrounding the camshaft usually. First wipe loose dirt, oil and debris off the engine with a dry cloth, as these particles reduce the oil clearance and deform the camshaft bearings. In addition to cleaning bearings when necessary, sometimes, you should replace the camshaft bearings. but the more intelligent approach is to handle the job with as much planning and precision as you would when replacing main or rod bearings. 

Simply knocking out the old bearings and installing fresh ones with little regard to bearing selection, sizing, or alignment is a big mistake. There are various things to do when you replace the camshaft bearings. At first, you should remove the old, worn camshaft bearings using a camshaft bearing tool, and then select the appropriate expanding driver, correctly align it on the expander assembly and put the nylon cone over the driving bar, and screw the expander assembly into the driving bar.Then you may have to clean the replacement camshaft bearings and dry them with a cloth. Last  apply a thin coat of lubricating oil to all the components to protect them from rust.

You have to tighten the crankshaft caps before inserting the new bearings, using a torque wrench and clean the bore surfaces using a quick-dry solvent. Then you can begin installation of the camshaft bearings from the rear to the front of the block. Allow sufficient clearance between the camshaft and the bearing.
