In the late 20th century, Islam fast transplant to Yiwu, Zhejiang Province. Nowadays, Yiwu has become a rapidly rising urban where the Islam live. Yiwu, as a new-coming city of Islam, they has penetrated into every corner of Yiwu through different populations carrier activity. The emerging Islam has a complicatedly ethnic background. And why Islam is so popular in Yiwu? We can know the reson from two aspects.
On one hand, is Islam itself. Muslim groups (Islams) are complex and international. No matter compared with the ancient Chinese Islams in Tang and Song Dynasties or domestic northwest , southwest and traditional central area, the Yiwu Muslim community has more complexity and internationalism. Yiwu is a special city.Yiwu, as a development of commodity economy and the formation of international commodity city , providing opportunities to Islam who traditionally like the flow of business. In other words, if there are no rapidly developing market, convenient service system, the rich products, and cultural tolerance of mentality, there will be no large Islam immigrants entering. The advantage of the market itself of the 20th century is a main factor of sino-foreign Muslim to move into Yiwu City. Yiwu Islam mainly engaged in four industry: export trade, Muslim food (including restaurants, supermarkets, halal meat slaughtering, transportation, marketing, etc.), textile processing (clothes, worship blanket, gauze kerchief, etc) and early childhood education and so on , and the former two industries are dominant. So far, Yiwu has five times of bigger market development , and the expansion of each time follows urban geographical expansion. Market’s outspread, also driving the real estate, restaurants, processing, wholesale, tourist lodging industries together. Yiwu Islam’s living pattern and living space change with market changing, so as the site of activity.
Keeping a tolerant cultural mentality, taking appropriate measures, broadening the communication between folk and government authorities, and exerting the communication channels between the agency of Islam and the native ,we will make the Islam becom a real and new strength of the Yiwu construction
