The trade volume of Yiwu market reached 49.23 billion Yuan in 2008, increased by 6.83%, in an adverse economical environment. And 38.18 billion of the total trade volume comes from markets managed by China Commodities City Group Co., Ltd. 
The total trade volume of Yiwu market has been keeping a growth rate above 7.5% for 8 years. It has been the 18th times that Yiwu market achieved the largest trade volume among all of China’s markets. The history of Yiwu market can date back to 1982 when the market was more of an open air bazaar. But now, it has developed into the world’s largest wholesale market of small commodities.

The market’s trade volume exceeded 100 million for the first time in the 1980s and then reached 10 billion in 1994. Apart from domestic trade, the market’s foreign trade hit record high too which exported more than 500,000 containers in 2008. The export of Yiwu to Europe, South America and ASEAN increased by 18.37%, 29.45%, 28.39% respectively.
