Yiwu Market: the Never End Expo

In 1995, Yiwu hold its first Commodity Expo based on the Yiwu commodity market. At that time, the fair still had the traditional festive feature. A lot of local residents treated it as purchasing consumer commodities in the open air market in rural area. However, after several sessions, the local government tried to get rid of the traditional feative feature and tried to be professional and international.

From 2002, the Ministry of Commerce Fair take part in hosting the Yiwu Expo, so the scale of the expo enlarge quickly.

The 2007 Yiwu Fair hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Zhejiang Province, China CCPIT, China Light Industry Federation and the China General Chamber of Commerce was the largest session. The expo coverd 100,000 square meters, set 4,500 international standard booths. And 2,565 enterprises participated in the expo. The professional audiences were more than 110,000 among which 17,000 were foreign merchants coming from more than 130 countries and regions.

Now the fluttering network of the Yiwu Expo is extending to the outside borders. It had already held large promotional campaign in those large cities such as HongKong, Singapore, Frankfurt, Moscow, Milan and Rome and so on. Yiwu is also the first county-level city who acquired the right of exhibiting abroad. So plans of a series of expos such as Yiwu Expo-Frankfurt, Yiwu Expo-Cologne and Yiwu Expo-Honkong air brewing now.

Yiwu realized the win-win situation of the interaction of exhibition and market, and made exhibitions the important searching engine for the local economy development by developing exhibition economy based on Yiwu market. The 100,000 distributors and the 200,000 mobile customers consisted to the large groups of buyers and sellers. There are more than 400,000 kinds of commodities exhibited in the expo and the expo was called the Never end Expo. There are more than 80 exhibitions and large scale meetings held in Yiwu every year including the exhibitions of small commodities, cultural products, hardware appliances, cosmetics and toys. There are 15 national level trade associations and exhibition institutions that have fame both in domestic and abroad held exhibition in Yiwu.
